Busy, Busy

I don't know why I ever thought that staying home would be boring. I don't know why I thought I'd be sleeping in, getting all my housework done, and doing lunch with friends. Heck, half the time I'm lucky to even get to eat lunch, much less go to a restaurant and have a leisurely visit with friends! The reality is that I'm up at 6:30 every morning and on the go until 8:00 at night. Every day is different, but never boring. The days somehow fly by even if we go nowhere at all. With the arrival of summer, the pace seems to have quickened somehow, if that's even possible.

I thought this was cute of Sophie and Mamie at the park wading pool.
Thanks to her cousins, Sophie has inherited a cube with a slide and a playhouse which she is thorougly enjoying. She could go down that slide all day.

This is Sophie's new favorite spot to be when I'm in the kitchen. And for the record, she is not drinking a cherry limeaid....it's water, I promise. :-)

Cousins

Are there any better playmates for a child to have than their cousins? Sophie is very blessed to have three wonderful, adoring cousins living close by and boy do they have fun. Here are a few pictures I took today while they were over visiting.

Jack "holding" Sophie (notice his pajamas WITH the rain boots) :-)

Sharing a snack

Sophie decided to lay down, so they all did. So cute.

Boo Boos and Other Stuff

Ever since summer started and Sophie began wearing shorts, she has had a skinned knee (or two) at all times. As soon as one heals, it gets re-skinned. Here is a pic. of her very first skinned knee. Notice she is pointing it out to me to make sure I know it's there. :-)

I just thought these were funny. Her facial expressions are priceless as she eats a lemon popscicle.

"wow, this lemon popscicle is REALLY sour"

"seriously...it's SOUR!"

"should I take another bite?"

"maybe if I lay down, it won't be so sour"

"yeah, that's better"

Prayer Warrior

I have learned a tremendous amount during my mere 15 months of motherhood, and I have seen myself reflected in the most innocent of souls in many amazing (and sometimes alarming) ways. There really is nothing like seeing your child grow, learn and become an individual with their own thoughts, ideas and personality. It is a huge responsibility being a parent, and I lie awake many nights wondering if I am setting a good enough example for Sophie. Am I patient enough? Do I discipline enough without being too harsh? Am I a good Chrisitan example for her? Am I setting a good example as a wife? I pray about it a lot and ask God for the guidance and wisdom that I need to be a good mommy for Sophie.

Well, I had a humbling experience today but it was also one of my proudest mommy moments yet. It was lunch time and I had just put Sophie in her chair with her lunch. I walked back towards the kitchen sink to do something, and when I turned back around to see if she was eating she was just sitting there with her little hands clasped together, waiting for me to say a prayer. I had forgotten. So I said a prayer and she happily ate her lunch. Then tonight at dinner, she did it again. I always serve her first then I go back to get my plate. When I got back to the table, she was waiting there patiently, again with her hands clasped. I know now that I won't be forgetting to pray before mealtimes anymore. I have my one year old to put me in my place. :-)

Tagged

Okay, Amy tagged me to answer these questions so I will do my best to be as witty as possible in answering them (ha).

Maybe I should…be spending some time with my husband right now since the baby is in bed instead of sitting in front of this computer.

*I love the smell of…the ocean, a baby right out of the tub, coffee, and gardenias to name a few. I'm a pretty smell oriented person, so there are lots of smells I love!

*People would say that I…am a little too sarcastic.

*I don’t understand why…God chose to put me in Tennessee where the summers are so dang hot.

*When I wake up in the morning...I go straight to Sophie's room because it's 6:30am and she's ready to get up. Ugh.

*I lost my will power to…get rid of this blubbery baby belly that I've had for over a year. I can't really use the excuse that I just had a baby anymore.

*Life is wonderful with…family, friends and lots of dessert.

*My past made me…need therapy. Just kidding. Sort of. :-)

*I get annoyed when…I'm at Walmart and everyone is in my way.

*Parties are not...something I can stay at until the wee hours anymore.

*Dogs are…an endless source of joy for my daughter.

*Cats are...capable of making me very miserable in a very short amount of time.

*Tomorrow I am going to…play bunco!

*I have a low tolerance for…disorder.

*I’m totally terrified of…car accidents. I've been in so many that I've been traumatized for life.

*I wonder why I thought my life would be…less wonderful than it is. I am so blessed to have a great husband and family, a beautiful daughter and great friends.

*Never in my life…have I been snow skiing. Seems ridiculous since I lived in the Northwest most of my life, but there you have it. Put it on my list of to-do's.

*High school was something that...I totally wasted because I was too interested in skipping class and being too cool for everything.

*When I’m nervous…I sweat like crazy and my stomach churns.

*Take my advice…and don't go water skiing in a two-piece bathing suit.

*Making my bed is…something that I do every morning after Sophie and I cuddle and have a pillow fight in it.

*I’m almost always…cleaning something.

*I’m addicted to…Sonic cherry limeaids.

*I want someone…to be my memory for me. I can't seem to do it myself.
